Police arraigns five men for attempted murder in Oyo

Police on Friday arraigned five men at the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for alleged attempted murder of a neighbour.

The defendants are – Aliu Hammed (23), Molomo Tairu (20), Haruna Isiaq (25), Abdullahi Isiaq (22), and Abdulmumini Idris (25).

They were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and attempted murder.

The Magistrate, Mr. M. Mudashiru, who did not take the defendants’ plea due to lack of jurisdiction ordered their remand at Agodi Correctional Centre in Ibadan.

The defendants were remanded in prison following the advice from the Director of the state’s Public Prosecution (DPP).

The magistrate, thereafter, adjourned the case till October 21 for mention.

Earlier, the prosecuting counsel, Insp. Femi Oluwadare, told the court that the defendants allegedly conspired together to commit the offence.

Oluwadare said the defendants on August 3 attempted to slaughter one Abdulqadri Soliu with a knife at Alaraba Village.

He said the offence contravened sections 320 and 324 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
