Police on Monday arraigned gospel singer Timileyin Ajayi at the Nasarawa State High Court, Lafia, for the murder of his girlfriend, Salome Adaidu.

Police operatives arrested Ajayi over the January 12 murder of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member at his home in the Papalana area of New Karshi, Karu local government area of Nasarawa State.

The prosecution alleged that the singer murdered Adaidu after a confrontation and he was later found on a motorcycle with the victim’s severed head.

Ajayi faces the death penalty under Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria if found guilty of killing the 24-year-old.

The singer was paraded at the command headquarters in Lafia where officers displayed the knife and machetes they claimed were used in the gruesome act.

Ajayi later confessed to journalists that he killed Adaidu in a fit of rage after discovering she had been unfaithful to him.

“I caught her cheating. I showed her the proof, but she denied it until I confronted her with the evidence. She apologized and promised it wouldn’t happen again,” he stated.
