Police operatives in Edo arrested six persons for various electoral offences during last Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the election, Frank Mba, disclosed this at a news conference on Tuesday in Benin City.

He said: “We have made a total of six arrests, and we expect this number to increase as we expand our investigations.

“We recovered four weapons of different mixes, life ammunition, 58 voter cards in unlawful possession, stolen BIVAS machines, and some cash.”

He described the election as peaceful and a successful exercise with the police playing a pivotal role in maintaining law and order.

Mba commended the people of Edo State for their exemplary conduct during the election.

“The good people of Edo have conducted themselves commendably throughout the election process.

“We thank them for trusting and working with us,” the DIG added.

He also praised the officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force, members of the Armed Forces, and other law enforcement agencies for their professionalism and neutrality during the exercise.

“Our personnel conducted themselves excellently well, maintaining political neutrality and complying with relevant laws and guidelines,” he concluded.
