Police arrests suspected child traffickers, rescues 2 victims in Rivers
Police operatives in Rivers have arrested two suspected child traffickers and rescued two children in Chococho, Etche Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, told journalists on Thursday in Port Harcourt that the victims were rescued unhurt.
She said the suspects allegedly conspired to defraud two women of their babies.
The spokesperson added that the suspects, Ugochukwu Onyebuchi and Ogechi Nmezi, lured one Gift Chimanu, a mother of a two-month-old baby girl into their scheme.
She said: “They also lured Hope Onyebuchi, who has a one-year-old baby boy, claiming to have been officials of Government Approved Adoption Agency.
“Investigations revealed that the suspects collaborated with members of a local vigilante group, OSPAC, to carry out the crime.
“During interrogation, suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime.
“The victims have been safely rescued and reunited with their families, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate, including the implicated OSPAC members.”
