Police nab two suspected tricycle thieves in Kano, recover stolen vehicles
The Kano State Police Command has arrested two men suspected of stealing tricycles and recovered the stolen vehicles, which have since been returned to their rightful owners.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, announced the arrests in a statement on Thursday. According to Haruna, the operation was carried out during an intelligence-driven raid on criminal hideouts in Dambatta Local Government Area on December 9, 2024.
“During the operation, two suspects, Ado Yusuf, 40, and Rabi’u Suleiman, 35, were arrested, and the two tricycles were recovered from them,” Haruna revealed.
He explained that preliminary investigations indicated the suspects were unable to provide a credible explanation for how they came into possession of the tricycles.
On December 17, 2024, a breakthrough in the case emerged after the Command’s press conference on December 10. “The owner of one of the tricycles, with registration number KGM 246VC, appeared at the Command’s Headquarters. The owner revealed that the suspects had drugged the tricycle rider, Mamman Musa, and stolen the tricycle,” Haruna stated.

The victim, Musa, was initially rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital in Kano before being transferred to the Kano Reformatory Institute in Kiru for further treatment. He was eventually discharged and later identified one of the suspects as the individual who had drugged him.
Following the identification, the recovered tricycle was handed over to its owner. The Commissioner of Police for Kano State, CP Salman Garba, has since ordered a thorough investigation into the case, with plans to charge the suspects in court once investigations are concluded.
“The Command urges members of the public who have fallen victim to similar crimes, specifically those whose tricycles have been snatched through drugging or other means, to report to the office of the Police Public Relations Officer at the Command’s Headquarters in Bompai for possible identification,” the statement added.
