Police quizzes Rep over alleged assault of Uber driver
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has invited for questioning a member of the House of Representatives for Aba North and South Federal Constituency of Abia State, Alex Ikwechegh, over an alleged assault of an Uber driver in the city.
He was quizzed at FCT Command Headquarters in Maitama
Ikwechegh was seen in a video posted on social insulting the driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, after the latter asked him to pick up a delivery at his residence in Abuja.
He threatened to beat up the driver and thereafter lock him up in his generator house
The lawmaker also threatened to make the driver to “disappear without traces.”
The command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the development in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
She said: “Alexander Ikwegh, who represents the Aba North and South Federal Constituency in Abia State. The incident occurred on October 27, 2024, at a residence on Zamfara Crescent, Maitama, Abuja.

“The FCT Police Command has received a report at the Maitama Divisional Headquarters regarding an incident involving a Bolt driver, Mr. Stephen Abuwatseya, and Hon. Alexander Ikwegh, who represents the Aba North and South Federal Constituency in Abia State. The incident occurred on October 27, 2024, at a residence on Zamfara Crescent, Maitama, Abuja.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that Mr Abuwatseya was delivering a package to Hon. Ikwegh when a dispute arose concerning the method of delivery. During this altercation, Mr. Abuwatseya was reportedly physically assaulted.
“After allegedly slapping the victim, he reportedly remarked with contempt, ‘You can go ahead and call the Inspector-General of Police,’ demonstrating a troubling disregard for the authority of law enforcement.
“Currently, the suspect is at the Maitama Police Station undergoing questioning.
“The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Olatunji Disu, has mandated a thorough investigation into the matter.
“The Command is committed to conducting an impartial investigation and ensuring justice in all cases. Upon completion of the investigation, appropriate legal action will be taken on the matter.”
