Protesters demand Akpabio’s resignation amid allegations

Published

on

Civil society groups stormed the National Assembly gate on Wednesday, calling for Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s resignation to pave the way for a thorough investigation into allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The protesters, who gathered as early as 8 a.m., brandished banners with messages like “Akpabio Must Go” and “Protect Women’s Rights”.

The controversy surrounding Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan began last week when the latter accused the former of targeting her for refusing his sexual advances. The allegation, made on live TV, followed a disputed change in seating arrangements in the Senate on February 20.

This development comes after Akpabio previously apologized to Akpoti-Uduaghan for comparing her speech to a “night club” remark during a Senate plenary session.

> However, the current allegations have sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for Akpabio’s resignation to ensure a fair investigation.
