The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar III, has officially announced that Saturday, March 1, 2025, will mark the beginning of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

This declaration comes after the crescent moon was sighted on Friday, February 28, corresponding to the 29th day of Shaban.

Speaking from his palace on Friday evening, the Sultan confirmed that widespread reports of moon sightings from various regions of the country were verified and accepted by the council. This confirmation marks the commencement of Ramadan 1446.

The Sultan urged all Muslims to dedicate the holy month to prayers, seeking Allah’s blessings and guidance for the nation and its leaders. He also emphasized the importance of charity, encouraging Muslims to support the less privileged so they can participate in the fasting period.

Reports from Islamic leaders across the country confirmed the moon’s appearance, marking the official beginning of Ramadan fasting on Saturday. Muslims across Nigeria are now set to begin the month-long period of fasting, prayers, and devotion.

This announcement is in line with the sightings in other countries, including Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and Malaysia, which have also declared Saturday as the first day of Ramadan.
