Reps decries delay in submission of 2025 budget proposal
The House of Representatives has expressed concern over the delay in submitting the 2025 budget proposal to the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu.
This followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance moved by a lawmaker, Clement Jimbo, at Wednesday’s plenary in Abuja.
In his presentation, Jimbo said the Fiscal Responsibility Act 2007 provides for the prudent management of the country’s resources and ensures long-term macroeconomic stability of the economy.
The lawmaker stressed that Section 11(1)(b) stipulates that the Federal Government must prepare and lay before the National Assembly the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) at least four months before the commencement of the next financial year.

In its resolutions, the House urged the federal government to comply with Section 11(1)(b) of the Fiscal Responsibility Act 2007.
The lawmakers also asked the government to comply with a section of the FRA Act and submit the 2025 budget proposal to the National Assembly without further delays.
They equally mandated the committees on National Planning and Economic Development, Appropriation, and Finance to ensure compliance within two weeks.
