Rivers Administrator appoints new SSG, acting Head of Service following resignation

Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the Administrator of Rivers State, has announced the appointment of Professor Ibibia Worika as the new Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG) and Dr. Iyingi Brown as the acting Head of Service (HoS).
The appointment of Dr. Iyingi Brown as acting HoS follows the resignation of the former HoS, Dr. George Nwaeke. Ibas expressed sadness over Nwaeke’s departure, stating, he “appreciated Nwaeke’s immense contributions in his administration and wished him well in his future endeavors.”
Brown, who previously served as the Permanent Secretary, Welfare, Office of the Head of Service, will assume the role in an interim capacity “until a new HoS is appointed,” according to Ibas’s early morning announcement on Tuesday.

Ibas also reassured the people of Rivers State of his commitment to impartiality, peace, and stability.
Regarding the appointment of Professor Worika, Ibas issued a statement on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, explaining that the decision was made “following a careful consideration of his credentials, extensive experience and performance during rigorous selection process.”
He emphasized Worika’s qualifications, highlighting his diverse background. “He said that Worika’s career spanned academia, international legal practice and high level policy advisory roles. He said this made him uniquely qualified to support the Administrator in the onerous task of achieving the President Bola Tinubu’s mandate.”
“According to Ibas, Worika’s appointment is with immediate effect,” the statement confirmed.
