Rivers govt to conduct fresh local council elections August 9
The Rivers State government will conduct fresh local government elections in the state on August 9.
The Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RISIEC), Justice Adolphus Enebeli (retd), disclosed this at a stakeholders’ meeting in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
The Supreme Court had last Friday nullified local government elections conducted by Governor Siminilayi Fubara’s administration in the state on October 5 last year.

Enebeli, who unveiled the election guidelines during the meeting, said the commencement of the election process was due to the Supreme Court’s invalidation of last year’s election.
He said political parties that would field candidates in the election must complete and submit an Expression of Interest Form from April 24 to May 12 to be eligible for the exercise.
The RSIEC chairman added that the election campaign would commence on July 7 and end on August 7.
