The Rivers State Police Command has initiated a comprehensive investigation into a devastating wave of violence that swept through several local government areas in Rivers State on Monday, resulting in loss of life and destruction of property in three LGAs.

Commissioner of Police Mustapha Mohammed announced the investigation on Wednesday, following an on-the-spot assessment of the affected areas. “We are taking action; we have embarked on a full-scale investigation,” Mohammed stated.

A high-powered investigation team, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department, has been assembled to tackle the task.

The violence erupted after the Inspector General of Police ordered the unsealing of the 23 LGA secretariats in the state. To reassure residents of their safety, police operatives have begun intensive patrols.

Mohammed emphasized that multiple measures are in place to ensure adequate security in the state.

“We are out this morning on a confidence-building patrol to assure the public of their safety,” Mohammed explained. “We have seasoned police officers who will thoroughly investigate the case.” The investigation report will be submitted to the Inspector General of Police upon completion.

Mohammed appealed for calm among stakeholders, stressing the importance of collaboration to restore peace. “We urge members of the public to work with us to ensure that peace is fully restored in Rivers State.”
