Rivers Utd suffer setback in title race

Rivers United have suffered a setback in their race for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title after a loss on Wednesday.

It was Bayelsa United who edged Rivers United 1-0 in their matchday 31 clash at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.

Kehinde Lawal struck in the 13th minute to secure all three points for the hosts, dealing a setback to Rivers United’s title ambitions.

Still sitting second spot on the table, Finidi George’s side remain five points behind league leaders Remo Stars.

In Umuahia, Abia Warriors strengthened their bid for a continental spot with a 2-0 victory over Lobi Stars.

Sunday Megwo and Anthony Ijoma found the net for the home team.

Meanwhile, Kwara United secured a 1-0 win against Nasarawa United, thanks to Lawal Abayomi’s decisive strike in the 64th minute.

Former league champions Heartland extended their winless run to seven matches after being held to a goalless draw by Sunshine Stars at the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode.

Elsewhere, Kano Pillars and Bendel Insurance played out a 0-0 stalemate at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
