Sanusi admits judges face challenges working in Nigeria
The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, on Saturday acknowledged the immense challenges faced by judges in Nigeria.
Sanusi, who spoke at a Movement for Islamic Culture and Awareness programme in Kano, highlighted the difficulties associated with working in a “dysfunctional society” where judges are constantly pressured by politicians and the public.
He said: “Being a judge in a dysfunctional society is not an easy task.
“You are pushed left, right, and center; there’s so many expectations from politicians, from the people.”
He acknowledged that the reputation of the judiciary is often tarnished by the actions of a few bad judges and urged legal experts to strive for zero tolerance.

Sanusi also expressed concerns about court judgments being overturned due to technicalities.
“We have to make sure that we bring down the number of bad judges to zero,” the monarch stated.
Furthermore, Sanusi advocated the independence of law enforcement agencies to uphold justice in the country.
The Emir’s words come at a time the Nigerian judiciary is facing criticism for conflicting orders and judgments.
The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has even summoned judges over conflicting interim injunctions in the Kano emirate crisis.
