Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has pledged that this year’s local council elections would solidify the state’s commitment to autonomy of the third tier of government and grassroots development.

Sanwo-Olu, who spoke at the 2025 Annual Thanksgiving Service held at Tafawa Balewa Square on Sunday, used the platform to celebrate achievements, acknowledge challenges, and unveil an ambitious roadmap for the state’s future.

The event brought together residents, leaders, and government officials in a moment of gratitude for the past year and hope for the year ahead. A

The governo reflected on the trials of 2024 and credited faith and collective resilience for Lagos’ steady progress.

He said: “This year, our local government elections will further strengthen the delivery of good governance at the grassroots and affirm our commitment to ensuring local government autonomy in line with President Tinubu’s vision for a truly federal Nigeria.”

Sanwo-Olu also highlighted the positive impact of the economic reforms initiated by President Bola Tinubu.

He noted that the reforms were beginning to bear fruit, citing increased public revenue, macroeconomic stability, and growing investments across sectors.

Looking to the future, Sanwo-Olu outlined several projects that would shape Lagos in 2025 and beyond.

These include the construction of a new international airport, expansion of the municipal rail system, and the creation of a state-of-the-art food logistics hub.

“We will push ahead with efforts to mobilize financing for ambitious projects like the new international airport and the expansion of our rail system.

“Additionally, we will intensify work on the Lagos State Electricity Law of 2024 to build a sustainable electricity market that ensures reliable and affordable power for our homes, offices, and industries,” he concluded.
