The Senate on Wednesday summoned the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, over the deplorable condition of the Old Oyo-Ogbomosho Road.

This followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance raised by Senator representing Oyo North, Buhari Abdulfatai, at the plenary in Abuja.

The lawmaker in his presentation pointed to the deplorable condition of the road and its impact
on travelers.

Abdulfatai lamented that the road’s poor condition has caused immense hardship to travelers.

His concerns were echoed by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, who emphasized the road’s importance and the Federal Government’s previous repair efforts.

“For over 10 years, despite the Federal Government initiating major repairs on the road, it remains in a deplorable state, resulting in regular accidents and daily gridlock caused by articulated vehicles,” Akpabio stated.

He directed the Committee on Works to look into the matter and report to the Senate within three weeks.

The Old Oyo-Ogbomosho road serves as a crucial artery connecting the South and North, facilitating trade, commerce, and travel.

Its deterioration not only affects local communities but also has broader economic implications.
