Seun Kuti, scion of late Afrobeats legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti has recalled how his father never approved or condoned a schoolteacher flogging him for any reason.

The Afrobeats musician was reacting to the arrest and arraigned a 45-year-old teacher, Stella Nwadigbo, over alleged indecent treatment and assault of a three-year-old pupil in Lagos State.

According to Seun, in order to prevent him from getting flogged by any instructor, his father would send warning letters to the principal of his secondary school and the headmistress of the primary schools he attended.

He said, ‘‘As a product of the Nigerian educational system, I almost experienced being flogged at school.

‘‘That’s the one thing I like my father for. So when I was going to school, my father always gave me a letter on the first day of school.

‘‘In primary school, the letter was addressed to my headmistress. In secondary school, it was to my principal.

‘‘The letter always read, “Nobody should touch my child.” “If he has done anything wrong, report him at home. I will punish him myself.”
