Singer Speed Darlington in trouble again, arrested by police in Owerri
Darlington Okoye, popularly known in music circles as Speed Darlington or “AKPI,” has been detained in Owerri, Imo State, by officials of the Nigeria Police Force.
The arrest of Speed Darlington, who is notable for his eccentric personality and bold, often provocative social media presence, was made known by his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju.
In a post shared on his official X handle, Deji Adeyanju disclosed that Speed Darlington was apprehended by the police upon his return to Nigeria for a show.

“Our client Speed Darlington, a.k.a. AKPI, has been arrested by the Nigerian police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria.” Deji Adeyanju wrote on his X page.
The lawyer also disclosed that the ‘Ye’ crooner Burna Boy is behind Speed Darlington’s arrest.
He wrote, “Burna Boy is behind the harassment of Speed Darlington by the police. This is someone who has been singing against oppression and forming junior Fela, now oppressing Akpi.”
Akpi had been earlier arrested and detained for days, until his mother cried out that he was missing. He was later released after tendering an apology for insinuating that Burna Boy is gay.
