At least six people died and several others were injured when angry youths attacked residents of a Fulani community in Augie local government area of Kebbi State on Sunday evening.

The incident followed reports on the alleged involvement of the Fulani residents in recent raids by bandits in the area.

Eyewitnesses told journalists on Monday that trouble started when a survivor of Friday’s bandit attack revealed that he recognized some Fulani faces among the attackers known locally as “Lakurawa.”

Angered by this revelation, the youths took matters into their own hands and launched a deadly assault on the Fulani community.

The spokesman for the state police command, Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident to journalists on Monday.
