The Supreme Court on Friday upheld the election of Usman Ododo as the Governor of Kogi State.

The apex court’s ruling ended a prolonged legal battle initiated by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the November 11, 2023, governorship election in the state, Murtala Ajaka.

The SDP candidate had appealed the verdicts of both the Appeal Court and the state governorship election petitions tribunal which upheld Ododo’s victory in the election.

In his petition to the tribunal, Ajaka asked the panel to nullify the election results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over widespread irregularities that compromised the integrity of the election.

However, in a unanimous decision, the five-member panel of the Supreme Court dismissed Ajaka’s appeal for lack of merit.

The panel declared Ododo as the duly elected governor of Kogi State.
