The spokesman for the state police command, Henry Okoye, said in a statement on Wednesday in Owerri that the suspects were also caught with native hen and white garments by operatives along the Okigwe – Umuahia expressway on February 3.

He added that the suspects were arrested by operatives attached to the Okigwe Divisional Headquarters in collaboration with residents of the Ogii community.

Okoye listed the suspects as Patrick Okoere (29), Ifeanyichukwu Anyaemeka (28), and Chukwuemeka Onyekachi (20).

The spokesman said: “During questioning, Okoera stated that his uncle, Osunta Oko, had asked him to acquire a human skull.

“He claimed that they found the human skull along a riverbank on the Okigwe – Umuahia expressway, an area where the command has received reports on cases of kidnappings.”

He added that the operatives are actively pursuing Oko and other accomplices in connection with the incident.

“In addition, a DNA analysis is underway to determine the identity of the skull’s owner,” Okoye stated.
