President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate release of minors who were arrested and are currently facing prosecution related to their participation in the #EndBadGovernance protests.

This directive underscores the government’s commitment to addressing concerns surrounding the treatment of young individuals within the legal system.

In a briefing with State House correspondents in Abuja on Monday, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, shared details of the President’s decision. “The President directed that all minors arrested in connection with the protests should be released without prejudice to the law,” Idris stated.

Furthermore, President Tinubu has tasked the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction with ensuring the well-being of these minors.

Idris also mentioned that the President has called for an investigation into the actions of law enforcement agencies involved in the arrests and prosecution of these minors.

“Any law enforcement personnel found culpable in this matter will face appropriate disciplinary action,” he said, indicating a commitment to accountability within the police force.

The #EndBadGovernance protests were fueled by widespread discontent over various issues, including corruption, hunger and economic hardship. Many young Nigerians took to the streets demanding significant reforms, which led to clashes with security forces and a heavy-handed response that raised concerns about the treatment of protesters, particularly minors.
