Trans Niger Pipeline erupts in flames after Rivers explosion

A section of the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) has been engulfed in flames following an explosion in Bodo Community, Gokana Local Government Area, Rivers State.

The incident occurred late Monday night near the Bodo-Bonny Road, which is currently under construction.

Video footage surfacing on Tuesday morning depicted thick black smoke billowing into the atmosphere, with a raging fire rapidly spreading from the pipeline into the surrounding mangrove area.

The TNP is a critical federal transport line that supplies crude oil to the Bonny Export Terminal in Rivers State.

Attempts to obtain immediate confirmation from the Rivers State Police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, were met with a promise to investigate and provide further information. However, no further statement had been issued at the time of this report.

Further details are expected to emerge as investigations continue.
