A small plane on Thursday crashed through the roof of a furniture factory in Southern California, in the United States, claiming two lives and injuring 18 people.

No fewer than 200 people were working at the factory at the time of the crash.

The plane crashed less than two minutes after taking off from the Fullerton Municipal Airport in Orange County.

A spokesperson for Fullerton police said it was not yet known if the people who were killed were in the plane or on the ground.

However, a CCTV footage showed the plane was tilted on its side as it flew into the building, causing an explosion and black plume of smoke.

Ten out of the 18 injured persons were taken to hospital, while eight were treated and released at the scene.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane was a single-engine Van’s RV-10, a four-seat aircraft.
