Two men docked for theft of cassava, membership of secret cult in Ebonyi

Police in Ebonyi on Friday arraigned two men, Onwe Mgboro and Onyebuchi Mgboro, at the Abakaliki Magistrate’s Court 1 for allegedly stealing cassava.

The defendants allegedly stole the cassava from one Mr. Sunday Agbo’s farm

They were also accused of membership of a cult group, known as “Viking Confraternity.”

The men were arraigned on a four-count charge, bordering on stealing, cultism, unlawful removal of beacon and malicious damage.

The defendants’ pleas were not taken by the court.

The Senior State Counsel, David Njoku, said the defendants committed the offence on February 15, at Eguele Umuezeaka, Ngbo, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.

Njoku said that the defendants conspired among themselves to commit the offences.

He said the offence in count one is punishable under section 516 A (a) of the criminal code, Cap 33, Vol. 1 law of Ebonyi, 2009.

“Count two, the defendants did belong to a secret cult group, known as ‘Viking Confraternity.’

“The offence is contrary to section 3 (1)(3) and (4) and punishable under section 5 of Ebonyi law prohibiting secret cult,” he stated.
