VIOLENT RIVERS: Gunshots ring out as chairman, gunmen retake burnt LG secretariat (Video)
The political crisis rocking Rivers State following Saturday’s local council elections took a dangerous dimension when the newly elected Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government, Israel Abosi, led gun-wielding individuals to retake control of the council.
This was after hoodlums suspected to be loyalists of former governor and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, had burnt down a section of the secretariat early on Monday.
Ripples Nigeria had reported how the thugs had burned down the secretariat and prevented Abosi, the newly elected councillors and workers from gaining access into the complex.
According to the report, at the newly built Ikwerre LGA secretariat, located in Isiokpo, the office of the chairman was set ablaze and properties looted by the thugs protesting the legitimacy of LGA elections.

However, later in the day, Abosi made bold moves to take back control of the council when he led his own political thugs to the secretariat where they engaged the alleged Wike supporters while shooting sporadically into the air.
A viral video shared on X by a user with the handle @Topboychriss, showed the Abosi ’men’ storming the secretariat with gunshots ringing all around while chasing the Wike supporters away from the complex.
Topboychriss added this narrative to the video:
“Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government, Israel Abosi, retakes control of the council. Supporters of Nyesom Wike should apply to be an athlete in the next Olympics. Dem sabi run They met their match and took to their heels. Cowards! Nobody has the monopoly of violence.”
