VP Shettima arrives in Sweden for bilateral talks, eyes boost in trade

Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima, on Thursday, touched down in Sweden for a two-day working visit aimed at strengthening trade and bilateral ties between the two nations. This high-profile visit, initiated by President Bola Tinubu, promises to elevate cooperation in key sectors.

Shettima is joined on this trip by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and top officials from various government agencies and parastatals.

According to his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President’s agenda includes high-level discussions with Swedish government officials, as well as meetings with Crown Princess Victoria and the Swedish Prime Minister.

Key Areas of Collaboration

The visit focuses on six strategic areas:

– ICT and Digitalisation: Enhancing Nigeria’s digital infrastructure and expertise through Swedish partnerships.
– Education: Expanding educational opportunities and exchanges between the two countries.
– Sustainable Transport: Developing eco-friendly transportation systems and infrastructure.
– Agriculture: Boosting agricultural productivity and trade.
– Mining: Strengthening mining sector cooperation and resource management.

The statement explained, “The visit, which is at the behest of President Bola Tinubu, will see the Vice President engage in high-level talks with key government officials. He is also slated to meet with Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and the Swedish Prime Minister.

“Targeted areas of strengthened collaboration between Nigeria and Sweden that will be pursued by the Vice President include ICT, digitalisation, education, sustainable transport, agriculture, and mining.”

As Shettima engages with Swedish leaders, he seeks to fortify Nigeria’s position in the global economy and attract investment. This visit underscores the Nigerian government’s commitment to diversifying its economy and fostering international partnerships.

The Vice President is scheduled to return to Nigeria on Saturday, bringing with him newfound opportunities for cooperation and growth.
