Wike condemns Fubara’s letter to Rivers Assembly, calls it ‘useless’

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has strongly criticized Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for sending a letter to the state House of Assembly.

The letter, which sought a meeting with lawmakers regarding the Supreme Court’s decision on the state’s political situation, was dismissed by Wike as unnecessary and ineffective.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, Wike expressed his disapproval of Fubara’s method, insisting that the governor had taken the wrong approach in engaging with the Assembly.

“The letter is useless,” Wike said bluntly, questioning why Fubara chose to communicate through formal correspondence instead of direct engagement.

Wike further stressed that Speaker Martins Amaewhule and the lawmakers should not be treated as subordinates to the governor, stating that they operate independently.

He advised Fubara to handle the situation more tactfully, saying, “Instead of writing a public letter, he should have directly contacted Amaewhule and his team by phone to arrange a meeting.”

Wike’s comments reflect the deepening political rift in Rivers State, as tensions between Fubara and lawmakers loyal to Wike continue to escalate.
