Yobe Police arrest suspected woman gunrunner with 350 rounds of live ammunition

The Yobe State Police Command, on Monday, announced the arrest of Hamsatu Modu, 54, from Morami Village in Jakana Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State. Modu was found with 350 rounds of live 7.62×39 MM ammunition.

“The Police Command received credible intelligence regarding a suspected gunrunner en route to Damaturu, prompting swift action,” said DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, Public Relations Officer in a press statement.

“Operatives from ‘A’ Divisional Police Headquarters intercepted a Golf 3 saloon car and uncovered the concealed ammunition during a thorough search.”

The statement further noted that Commissioner of Police CP Garba Ahmed praised the operatives’ prompt response, saying, “This breakthrough demonstrates our unwavering commitment to combating crime and safeguarding Yobe State.”

“The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation to unravel the criminal network and motives behind the trafficking,” Abdulkarim added.

CP Ahmed urged community cooperation, stating, “Public support is crucial in our quest to eradicate crime. We assure the people of Yobe State of our dedication to their safety and security.”

“The Command will continue to collaborate with neighboring states to prevent arms proliferation,” Ahmed emphasized.
