YUL EDOCHIE TO AFRICAN PARENTS: Don’t punish kids who speak their mother tongue
Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has counseled African parents against the idea of punishing or scolding their children who dare to speak in their mother tongue.
In a post on his Instagram page, the thespian encouraged parents to teach their kids English so they can communicate with others, but not so that they will stop speaking their mother tongue.
Yul Edochie also used the medium to firmly emphasize that it is unacceptable for parents to discipline their children for speaking their local dialect.

The actor wrote; “Yes, teach children English. It’s important for communication.
“But don’t flog them for speaking their mother tongue. That’s unacceptable.
‘‘That’s slavery mentality which the Oyibo people stuffed our brains with.
“Will a Chinese man or woman ever flog a Chinese child for speaking Chinese?
”Never make your fellow Africans feel inferior for being African.
‘‘If we’re not proud of who we are as Africans & where we come from, we’ll never know where we’re headed”.
